フランス北部リールに本店を構えるパティスリーMeert メールは1761年創業の老舗である。
18世紀から続く菓子文化と街の記憶を今に伝えてきた存在として知られ、看板菓子であるゴーフルは同店を象徴する菓子として長く親しまれている。このゴーフルは、現在も本店において一枚ずつ仕上げられる伝統的な製法が守られている。
Meertは18世紀後半の創業以来、フランス革命、産業革命、二度の世界大戦といった歴史的転換期を経ながら、現在まで営業を続けてきたパティスリーである。
フランス文化とベルギー（フランドル）文化の影響が交差する土地であるLille リールで創業したMeertの菓子文化も、こうした地域的背景のもとで形づくられ、発展してきたものと位置付けられている。
今作は作家Juliette Nothomb ジュリエット・ノトンブによるテキストと、Pierre Le-Tan ピエール・ル・タンのイラストレーションによって構成された一冊で、メゾンMeertとその菓子世界が描かれている。
リールという土地、祝祭や季節行事、ティータイム、旅をテーマにした章に分かれて、菓子や飲み物に関するルセットなどが記されている。

Meert is a long-established patisserie founded in 1761, with its main shop located in Lille in northern France.
Known for preserving the confectionery culture and memories of the city dating back to the 18th century, the house is especially associated with its signature gaufre, which has long been regarded as a symbol of Meert. These gaufres are still finished one by one at the Lille shop, following a traditional method that continues to be maintained today.
Since its foundation in the latter half of the 18th century, Meert has continued its activity through major historical turning points, including the French Revolution, the Industrial Revolution, and two World Wars.
Founded in Lille, a city shaped by the intersection of French and Belgian (Flemish) cultural influences, Meert’s confectionery tradition has developed within this regional context and reflects the cultural background of the area.
This book is composed of texts by Juliette Nothomb and illustrations by Pierre Le-Tan, presenting Meert and its confectionery world through written narratives and drawings.
The contents are organized into chapters devoted to Lille itself, celebrations and seasonal events, tea time, and travel, and include sections related to sweets, beverages, and recipes.
